A Dark and Hungry God Arises

(Stephen R. Donaldson)

Does your God go with you or do you manage perfectly well on your own?  Do you perhaps pick up a God on the way if you feel the need, when perched on a ridiculously steep and crumbly ascent, to invest a little prayer time in the hope of salvation?

Alternatively does your God rear, Old Testament style, out of the deep bones of the mountain demanding worship or prolonged penance in a trade for the ability to walk just that bit further or climb that extra few hundred metres of ascent?  The Nameless God of dreamers, baggers and the gullible lurks waiting for that one over-optimistic thought, that one chink of weakness in logic, that will push you over the edge.

It’s a scary thing meeting that particular God as you never know quite what the trade might bring…

To be continued.

I never got past the first book of that series – tbh preferred the Thomas Covenant stuff. First read aged 13 and re-read numerous times since! 🙂

Thomas Covenant was my first fantasy series though I find it hard to go back to now.

Never really read the sci fi stuff. Did try, but didn’t like the first book.
