The clock ticks down and the hour approaches…tomorrow morning kicks off the 2010 hillwalking season for me and The Fatdog.
Are we nearing the peak of physical fitness, ready for all the Scottish hills may throw at us…or are we in our normal state of weary decline with the possibility of reaching a summit dependent upon more than a modicum of divine intervention?
We’re definitely nowhere near the former that’s for sure. The latter? That’s more difficult to ascertain. The old problems have kicked back in through the indolent winter, but the mood is optimistic given that I now know how to counter them. Between now and mid March a concentrated effort on the physical front should see us capable of tackling bigger hill days without too much of a “day after” penalty.
I’m quite excited by tomorrow’s walk although the Callander Graham, Uamh Bheag, is not a particularly distinguished hill. Not only is Cap’n Jack available for a wee walk but we have a surprise visitor coming with us! To preserve anonymity at this stage I will refer to our visitor as Mr. X. Mr. X and I have met a couple of times but this is the first time we’ve had the opportunity to walk together. Given the distance he’s travelling for a couple of days shuffling around the hills I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the weather holds.
The pack is packed and all the arrangements for pick-up are in place. All we need now is the sun to shine…and The Fatdog to walk once more…
