Only an Excuse

26 Apr

Today’s “Scotsman” newspaper provided classic West of Scotland entertainment in the form of its dramatic front page layout.  Meaningless to the world at large the layout played upon the dark and delicate undercurrents within Scottish Society.   Where else could the reporting of a football match generate such sectarian based humour?

Taking pride of place in the centre is a large photograph of a deliriously happy, League winning, Rangers player swathed in red white and blue scarves and flags.

Immediately below in big bold type;

Vatican Threatens to Axe Pope’s Visit.

Sour grapes or what!

Here are a couple of hints and links for those outwith Scotland who are wondering what in God’s name this is all about.

Generalisations:

Rangers supporters – not averse to the abolition of the Roman Catholic Church…burning at the stake the preferred option.

Celtic supporters – not averse to a united Ireland, preferably one in which Rangers supporters become a sub-species kept only for the cleaning of sewers.

    MrP why are you still anonymous? I nearly dumped you in the spam pile! 😯

    I believe serbo-croat is the official language of the Greater Glasgow area…or it might be…’cause no other bugger can understand what they say especially when they have a deep fried Mars Bar stuck in their gob.
