Feedback needed – please

01 May

I could do with a bit of feedback on the appearance of the last post.  This new elongated monitor (and the variable width facility of my blog) is making it a wee bit difficult to judge what you might be seeing on screen.  If the photos look unbalanced with the text, or if the post looks a lot different from what has been produced in the past, please let me know.  Many thanks 😀 .

    Ken, I’ve uploaded a screenshot to http://beardedgit.smugmug.com/gallery/8726268_DVw75#853397616_eqySQ

    FWIW, I’m using a 15.1″ widescreen at 1280 x 800 px res.

Thanks gentlemen 😀 . This new widescreen is a 22″ working at 1920 x 1080 and because my blog isn’t fixed width it has expanded to fit the available screen. Probably the simplest solution is to switch the screen res temporarily to something like 1280 x 800 when I’m previewing new posts to make sure they don’t look silly.

Just a thought, Ken, but why not try centre-aligning your pics?

Never thought of it before Steff as most of the time I tried to get the photos and text to line up more or less both left and right. I used to set them at 1000 x ? and then reduce by 70% in WordPress. This meant they looked fine with the text on my old monitor (which I guess was running at just over 1000 x ? ) and when someone clicked on the photo it filled a decent part of the screen. Thanks for the idea. 😀

I’m full of ideas, but not many of them are worth the time of day.

Another one, if you’re a layout-pedant, is to use “align-full” on the post text, that should align the right-edges as well as the left ones. Alt+Shift+J is what I used to use before I set it as default in my code.

Well done Steff! You may have already guessed that I didn’t read the instructions before I started…or anytime since. I’ll have to check if wordpress gives me that option. Just checked…it does! 😀

    Cheers, Kennnn.

    🙂

FWIW, I did a second screenshot, this time in IE8 (the first one was in Firefox). Looks pretty much the same except for the fonts – you’ll notice that text breaks at different places. Pic at http://beardedgit.smugmug.com/gallery/8726268_DVw75#854590957_PfNYi
