Mr Redman’s Train Set

07 Sep

The wee group that comprised the Bridges Maintenance Section of (what was) Central Region was split up in 1996 as part of a major structural change in Scottish local government. Since then we’ve stayed in touch and still try to meet a couple of times each year.

Time has passed and a few have now retired with others still working in the “new” local authorities. One recently took up a post in New Zealand and found that earthquakes can have some unexpected effects…

“As far back as he could remember Mr R had worked with roads and bridges but, for the first time since his move from Scotland to Kiwi Rail, he felt he was at last getting to grips with the fundamentals of track design.

Pleased with himself, he closed his Brio Manual and headed back to the office…job done!.”

    ROTFLOL!!!

A forum that PB is on frequently have been hammering each other over whether earthquake jokes are allowed.

    I say if we didn’t laugh – we’d cry!

I hope that you guys are ok. It was a biggy! Seems it was fortunate it struck at the time it did with no traffic about. How bad is the damage?

Our side of the island was unscathed.
It was a complete miracle that no one was killed. it hit in the sort of two hour gap where there is pretty much no-one in the inner city – between the last drunks leaving the pubs and the first early morning workers starting. There were 2 or 3 serious injuries – one I think a taxi driver, who was presumably nearlythe only person on the streets at 4:35am.

PB & I have been in a Red Cross emergency team since the start of the year. It’s a brand new team, so none of us know anything much really!!! – but we are being sent to the city to help out – three go today, and more on Friday/Saturday – we will hear today if that includes us.

I hope you & J & Maisie are all well?

We’re all doing fine 😀 . J is away with her class at an outward bound facility…which I think is hilarious. Just waiting for her to phone…I think she was going HILLWALKING today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😆 😆 😆 .

Today was just about the worst wet weather we’ve had since last winter! 😀
